CHILDREN at Wylye Valley School were busy getting their hands messy last week as they created murals.

All 105 youngsters at the school, located in Codford, were involved in the design of the pieces of art which will be displayed around the school.

Headteacher Rob Barnes said: “The reason we did this was in 2005 a school in Codford and Steeple Langford merged to create the Wylye Valley School and we had a mural put in to mark this.

“It needed replacing and I became headteacher in January and wanted something to show we still teach children from the Wylye Valley.

“The only thing I asked for on the panels was for love and caring to each other to be put on there as it’s our school theme and also to celebrate all the different subjects that we do.

“I’ve been deputy for ten years and just wanted a fresh start.

“The children really enjoyed coming in and seeing how the mural has changed each day.”

Artist Steve Porter, who painted the original mural, visited the school over three days to create the pieces of art on four panels for both inside and outside the school.

The murals are expected to be put up in the next few weeks.

“The children told me what they wanted to put on there,” said Mr Porter.

“The previous one had children holding hands so we put that in to make a link and we included the school badge, cars and houses.

“There were some really positive suggestions.”
