Stonar Prep School presented a cheque for £2,777 to Wiltshire charity the Nestling Trust recently.

Pupils have taken part in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year, including an Ironman charity fundraiser. Throughout the afternoon, pupils cycled, swam and ran laps of the Atworth school's fields to collectively complete the distance of a full Ironman event. Pupils smashed the total distance, covering 496km with a total of 262.66 km cycled, 193.8 km ran and 38.72 km swam.

Other activities included a balloon release, a pyjama and movie night and an enterprise event, where children came up with their own business idea and set up stalls on the front lawn, with a variety of activities, foods and toys on offer.

The school adopted the Nestling Trust as the school charity after hearing about the work they are doing in Nepal, building a home for destitute and abused/trafficked children. Every effort is made to reunite the children with their families; where this is not possible the children will be cared for in a loving environment, given an education and hope for the future. The Nestling Trust also provides basic healthcare and health education for people living in the remote areas and is helping with relief work following the earthquakes (www.nestlingtrust.co.uk).

“We have been so impressed by the continued enthusiasm and determination of the children to raise what they can for the charity,” said head Mark Brain. “They have thrown themselves into their fundraising activities and we’re delighted with the total they have achieved.”

“An amazing achievement - thank you so much to the children of Stonar Prep School and to all those who have supported the events. We are most grateful. Every penny donated will be spent directly on our projects, building a home for destitute and trafficked children and providing medical care and health education in remote areas of Nepal for those who are without,” said Sue Hamblin of the Nestling Trust.
