A WINSLEY woman narrowly avoided serious injury after her car burst into flames moments after she was alerted to the danger and got out of the vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

The car belonging to Jo Dickson, of Hartley Farm Cottages, was smoking when she pulled into the farm complex, and she was unhurt thanks to the quick-thinking actions of a Hartley Farm worker who ran out to tell her about the blaze.

Shop manager at Hartley Farm, Jacky Martin, who witnessed the drama, said: "There was a lot of smoke, a lot of fire and a lot of loud bangs. It was pretty manic.

"One of the workers came running out to tell her that her car was on fire and to get out straight away. Moments later it was ablaze. Thankfully she was not hurt which is the main thing."

Firefighters from Trowbridge and Bath arrived on the scene to put out what was left of burning car shortly after 3pm, using one hose jet and two breathing apparatuses.

The firefighters left within the hour and police were informed but were not needed.
