A SPATE of bicycle thefts across Melksham have prompted police to issue a warning to residents to keep them secure and in a safe place.

There were around 12 instances of bike thefts in the town over the past week, with reports in areas such as Queensway and Churchill Avenue among others.

Police are reportedly looking for two young boys between the ages of 11 and 16 in connection with the thefts. Both are white and said to be of average weight and height.

Acting sergeant Kane Fulbrook-Smith, of Melksham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The current spate of bike thefts is being investigated, however, please secure your property which is of value to you.

“In day light hours thieves have been entering people’s gardens and garages and taking insecure bikes.

“Most have been happening in the early evening while it is still light so we urge people to take care and keep your goods safe.”
