A WHOPPING £22,000 will go towards the Cardiology Unit at Bath's Royal United Hospital and the British Heart Foundation following a ten hour spinathon.

On March 5 in Bath's Southgate shopping centre, 100 hardy cyclists took to the 53 spin bikes to pedal for the cardiac causes, smashing their fundraising target in the process by £12,000.

Many formed teams to share the work but a brave 35 were able to carry on through the pain from start to finish.

The event was organised by local businessman Rob Walsh and spin teacher Tash Hillier, both of whom have had family members suffer heart attacks.

Mr Walsh said: "Last June I lost my brother, Neil, unexpectedly through a heart attack. But what is very important to me is to turn this tragedy into something positive.

"Tash and I are amazed and extremely grateful for all the support of the cyclists, spin instructors, bucket shakers, sponsors, event administrators and of course the people of Bath."
