A BUDDING young cake artist from Bradford on Avon has made it to the final of a nationwide Great Vegan Bake-Off competition.

David Waldren, of Bath Road, is one of 12 finalists in PETA's (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) annual contest to find the best vegan baker in the UK.

Mr Waldren, who runs his business called The Cake Architect, wowed PETA's judges with his buttercream caramel cupcakes but now the 22-year-old faces a nervous wait until October 14 to see if he will be crowned champion.

"It feels brilliant to make the final. To be part of something like this after not doing it for very long is very exciting," said Mr Waldren, who spotted the competition on Facebook in August.

"I got into cake baking during university and it has snowballed ever since then. My girlfriend is vegan so this competition is a good fit there.

"I just did my first wedding fair too so things are progressing very well."
