AN opera event coming to the Wiltshire Music Centre this month has received a £1,500 grant from Bradford on Avon Town Council to help support the concert.

English Touring Opera, the UK's leading touring opera company, are coming to the venue on October 23 and will now include a drinks reception to thanks to the town council.

The company will be joining forces with the Old Street Band Orchestra, local choir Cantamus Chamber Choir and a newly formed WMC all-comers chorus to present a special concert performance of Bach’s St John Passion from 7.30pm.

"We are delighted that the town council are supporting this special night, bringing together some of the UK's finest opera talents with local choirs and singers," said communications and development manager Camilla Johns.

"We are very grateful for this gift from the Town Council to help us with the event."

Mayor Alison Craddock said: "For years now the Wiltshire Music Centre have helped to raise the profile of the town and attracted a wonderful array of different performers to the venue, so we are very happy to help out in any way we can."

In 2016 alone, the centre has helped 60,000 people in and around the county with music workshops, science fairs, youth orchestras and much more.
