STAFF from Somerset Care’s Wiltshire Community Services team swapped their uniforms for aprons to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. The care team, who are based in Melksham, decided to hold their own bake off competition to help boost funds for the charity.

Cakes were judged by Somerset Care’s very own Paul Hollywood, aka Andrew Needham, assistant director of community services. Andrew was asked to judge the cakes on their taste and appearance. Louise Homewood was announced as the winner of the taste category with her chocolate cake, and Kerry A’court won the presentation category with her Paw Patrol cupcakes, which she made with her one-year-old son.

After the judging had taken place, cakes were then sold to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. The current total raised sits at just over £200.

Business manager Jenny Futcher said: “Lots of people here have had hands-on experience of looking after either customers of Somerset Care with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and some of them have had family members as well, so it’s something that’s dear to all of us.

"We’re doing a memory walk and we did the bake off was to help boost funds for that. It’s something we’re all passionate about and we hope that we can make a difference.”
