THE team at Trowbridge Police Station works around the clock to ensure the local community feels safe and supported.

The Wiltshire Police base in Polebarn Road acts as a hub for the police force so they can represent the public service and let everyone know of their presence. With officers and staff split between Trowbridge and Warminster stations, due to the recently rolled out Community Policing Team, regular patrols walk the beat in Trowbridge.

Inspector James Brain said: “I have been an inspector since 2014, have been in my position in Trowbridge since September 2015 and have been an active police officer since 2002. It is my responsibility to deliver local policing to Trowbridge. My other areas are Warminster, Westbury, Mere, Tisbury, Melksham and Bradford on Avon.

“It is my responsibility to deliver the policing to these areas. With the new Community Policing model we have been running since September last year, we have piloted the new model which has been allowed more time to consult with the public.”

With five teams working in rotation, patrolling day, evening and night shifts, community support officers and PCs do everything in their power to deter crime in the towns.

Laura Humphreys, community support officer, said: “I have been a community support officer for 12 years, the first six were in Bradford on Avon. We have patrols to provide support and assistance to the public and we also work closely with agencies to prevent things like anti-social behaviour. I think for the community and members of the public we are the first face they see and it is important for us to have a presence.”

With 65 police officers, 18 PCSOs, 10 community policing sergeants, 10 local crime investigators and one crime co-ordinator, a large team works closely to provide a strong and dedicated policing system in Trowbridge and the surrounding Wiltshire area.

Charly Chilton, community co-ordinator, said: “I have been working in this role since October 2015 but I have been working with Wiltshire Police for the past eight and a half years. My job is very varied, no two days are the same. That’s what’s good about this job.”
