A NEW community choir is just weeks away from launching in Trowbridge and its conductor is urging singers of all ability to get involved.

Michelle Anthony-Cresswell has run choirs across the country for the past 12 years including one in Bath and one in Oxford, set up seven years ago, which now includes around 250 singers.

The 33-year-old, who has a degree in Music from The University of Reading, is hoping her newest venture in Trowbridge proves just as popular.

She said: “Absolutely anybody is welcome to join the choir, regardless of perceived ability or previous singing experience.

“People are usually much better than they think they are. All we ask for is that you love to sing.

“There’s absolutely no pressure in the choir and it’s pay-as-you go, which means you don’t have to commit to more than one session and don’t have to pay an upfront subscription, which isn’t the case in all choirs.

“We sing a range of songs from a number of different genres including songs from musicals such as Les Mis and pop songs.

“There has always been a really nice social aspect at the choirs I’ve run, with everyone having a chat and a laugh as well as a good singalong.”

Rehearsals run from 7pm until 8.30pm and cost £4, with the first on Monday, March 6 at St Thomas' Church in Trowbridge, just off Timbrell Street.

At the end of the term, singers who want to take part in a performance to show off the songs they have learned to friends and family can do so, but it is not compulsory.
