SWEET-toothed residents of Trowbridge have reasons to be cheerful as a new sweet shop opened its doors on Saturday.

Garbanzo’s Sweet Shop & Ice Cream Parlour has relocated from its former home in the Shambles Market Hall, Devizes, to its new premises in The Shires, next to Game at the entrance closest to Market Street.

As wide-eyed visitors found out on Saturday, Garbanzo’s offers a traditional sweet shop experience with an array of treats served and weighed from glass jars.

Shop owner and manager Paul Shore said: “We've had a fantastic response in the new shop and a big thank you must go to everyone who came in on our opening day.

“Lots of customers mentioned how much they missed the previous shop and how it's great to see it back again - we're really looking forward to extending our range and making the shop even better.

“There’s something special about a visit to a traditional sweet shop and I’m eager to build the business into a local attraction to tempt nostalgic adults and curious youngsters alike.”

There were a number of giveaways and special offers at Saturday’s grand opening, which proved popular with people of all ages, with customers saying it was "fantastic to see a little sweet shop with traditional jars of sweets".

The shop will be open six days a week, Monday to Saturday from 9.30am–5pm and in the future will also be open on Sundays from 10am–2.30pm.
