A PLAY which uses 'classic marine literature in an inspiring way’ is coming to the Warminster Athenaeum this Saturday.

The Fisherman’s Daughter, performed by theatre company AsOne, is an adventure-packed play for all ages to enjoy with an unlikely hero – Harold, the one-legged seagull.

It tells the story of 10-year-old Jess, who worries about pirates, sea monsters and storms awaiting the return of her fisherman father before Harold arrives and takes her on a rollicking adventure.

AsOne’s artistic director, Jane McKell, said: “It is a touching, funny, rollicking tale of unlikely friendship.

"Families love the participation and the one-legged seagull Harold, who is a bit of a joker.

"The play entertains hugely while encouraging the family to go and look at classic maritime literature such as Treasure Island, Peter Pan, The Odyssey, The Mariner’s Tale, Moby Dick, The Little Mermaid, Moonfleet and many more.”

With funding from Arts Council of England, the original play was commissioned by Weymouth’s Leviathan Maritime Literary Festival last year and has already toured to packed libraries, and schools and theatres over the last two seasons.

It will be performed at the Athenaeum at 3pm on Saturday.
