A DERAILED freight train is causing severe delays on some rail services today.

The train was derailed last night between Westbury and Castle Cary and the line is expected to remain closed today.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

It has been reported that 38 wagons have to be removed and GWR does not expect the line to reopen before Thursday.

In a statement today GWR said: "Services between Taunton and Westbury and between Weymouth and Westbury will be severely disrupted and trains will be amended or cancelled.

"Replacement road transport will operate where required.

"Customers are advised to check journey details before travelling at www.gwr.com/travel-updates/check-your-journey."

Arrangements have been made for GWR tickets to be accepted on South West Train services via any reasonable route and CrossCountry services between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads.

A shuttle train service is running between Weymouth and Castle Cary with connecting replacement road transport to/from Westbury.

Customers travelling between Weymouth and Westbury may also travel via Salisbury for the South West Trains train service between Weymouth and Southampton -  this journey takes up to three hours.

Arrangements have been made for GWR tickets to be accepted  on local bus routes with First.

GWR says: "If you have been affected by this disruption, you may be entitled to claim a refund. Please visit www.gwr.com/help-and-support/refunds-and-compensation for more information."
