THE sponsors have been unveiled for this year's Melksham Food and River Festival.

Leekes, Fox Hangars, Coombe Castle and Superior will be the main sponsors of the festival on September 2 and 3 at the King George V Park in Lowbourne.

Festival chairman Adrienne Westbrook said: “The committee has worked really hard this year to add new attractions to the line-up.

"We are really grateful to our sponsors who have enabled us to provide a weekend of fun and adventure with free entry for all.

“I think it is going to be a lot of fun. We will have lots of children’s activities, and Box Steam Brewery will be providing a bar for the weekend."

Festival highlights this year will include a zip wire challenge across the River Avon, a climbing wall and a raft race.

There will also be about 80 stalls selling produce from Wiltshire, Somerset and Devon.

Wiltshire singing group The Decibelles will be performing and festivalgoers can also look forward to the return of the popular chilli-eating competition.

The Food and River Festival, now in its third year, is a partnership between the festival committee and Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal Trust.

“We have had wonderful weather for two of the three years. Even with the poor weather, we still had about 2,000-3,000 people in attendance," said Mrs Westbrook.

“We are very thankful to our sponsors who are making this all possible. With all of these extra fun events this year’s festival will be one not to miss,” she added.
