WILTSHIRE College staff are celebrating the win of the coveted title of Brain of Wessex 2017.

Julian House hosted the corporate quiz, which took place in the revamped Lansdown Hall at Trowbridge Civic Centre, on Thursday (May 23).

Organiser Stephen Chesworth from Julian House is delighted that event has been resurrected for 2017 after an absence of eight years.

He said: “The venue is terrific but I’m sure the main reason that companies support it is the fact that it is a cracking night out; great for team building and a fun way to support the work of Julian House.

“There’s a bit of a quiz animal in most of us which explains why programmes such as Pointless & University Challenge are so popular.

“And we enjoy the torture of nearly knowing a geography question from our school days or a spicy aroma in our unique smells round.”

After a lively contest of 10 rounds featuring questions on general knowledge, literature, geography, history, film and TV, science, sport, abbreviations and music, it was Wiltshire College who came away with the coveted title of Brian of Wessex 2017 and the unique brain sculpture trophy and a Magnum of Champagne.

In the Wiltshire College team were captain, Heather Cross, clerk of the corporation, director of finance Lynda Croft, Chris Chilcott, the deputy head for English and Maths, Steve Flynn, brickwork lecturer, Jane Cragg-Barber, access to HE lecturer and Gulliver Methuen-Campbell, English lecturer.

In the quizmaster’s hot seat was explorer, adventurer and entrepreneur Sir David Hempleman-Adams, who delivered the questions and helped to keep the tight timetable on track.
