A DANCING group that raises money for charity while having a laugh is on the lookout for new members.

The New Male Majorettes, who perform at events and carnivals all over Wiltshire and further afield to raise smiles and funds, want new members to join them ahead of the busy year ahead.

The group formed in 2014 after a brief hiatus when the Devizes Majorecks disbanded and currently has around 18 members, but more are needed.

Danny Holton, 71, the group's events manager, said: “It’s not very serious at all, we all have a good laugh and there’s a real social aspect to it.

“Performing is great fun and we love seeing how people react to our shows, and of course it’s also great being able to raise money for two very worthwhile charities.

“We have a great group at the moment but with a busy schedule ahead, we need new recruits in case we’re ever short when people are away on holidays and things like that.

"There's a real mixture of ages with our youngest member 17 and our oldest 78, so anyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing some new faces."

Last year the group raised £4,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and £2,000 for Devizes Opportunity Centre and it hopes to do even better this year.

The group practice on Sunday afternoon at The Cavalier pub in Eastleigh Road, Devizes between 4.30pm-6.30pm.
