KEEVIL’S annual scarecrow trail was another roaring success at the weekend as young and old came together to scour the village for uniquely designed scarecrows.

A total of 40 scarecrows were dotted around the village, all individually designed by pupils from Keevil Primary School, their parents and local artists.

This year the theme was famous people beginning with the letter ‘M’ – first name or surname – which meant the village welcomed the likes of Mary Poppins, George Michael, Andy Murray, Marge Simpson, Michael McIntyre and more.

Organiser Jane Watson, from Steeple Ashton, said: “It was a really good weekend and very busy, especially on Sunday as the weather was nicer.

“We equalled last year’s attendance numbers and there was a real mix of ages, which is what we like to see.

“As always the scarecrows were brilliantly designed and the theme meant there were scarecrows that people from all generations could identify.”

Teams who managed to identify all 40 celebrity scarecrows correctly were entered into a £100 cash draw and £50 was awarded to parents Laura Cady and Paula Quinn for their Mary Poppins effort – the same artistic duo also won last year’s competition.

The majority of the money raised from the event will go towards making improvements to Keevil Primary School, while 10 per cent will go towards local charities.

“This event is so good because it brings the whole community together and encourages people to get out and about, while ” added Mrs Watson.

“Next year will be the tenth ever Keevil scarecrow trail so we’re going to make it extra special.”

Alongside the main event, there was a mini trail for youngsters with Barbie and Ken dressed up as various occupations.

Food was provided by local chef Eric Lepine on Saturday and Ron De La Cruz from JC's Kitchen on Sunday.
