A NEW company that designs and makes groundbreaking acoustic guitars from low environmental-impact materials was recently launched in Bradford on Avon.

Music makers gathered at the Tithe Barn on Sunday (May 14) to celebrate the launch of Acoustic Guitar Innovation (AGI), which has been set up by product designer and musician Felix Byrne with the support of his wife, Jackie.

Various guitars of differing design were displayed at the launch and attendees learned more about how Mr Byrne makes them by hand in his workshop, having created his first in 2013.

My Byrne, 53, said: “Our very first customer came from Surrey, but most guests on the night were veterans of the local folk and roots music scene.

“We also welcomed guests from Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, where one of our guitars has been on loan for some months.

“We took four orders on the night, which is fantastic. We’ve sold to musicians in Wiltshire and many other parts of the UK – we’ve even had interest from the USA.

“Our guitars are available to buy online as well as via Hobgoblin Music in Bristol and Corner Gallery in Bradford in Avon.”

As well as Mr and Mrs Byrne, Wiltshire musicians who performed at the launch using AGI guitars included Phil Cooper, who is currently touring Canada with his AGI guitar.

Local Avon Delta blues man Andrew Bazeley also appeared, as did singer-songwriter Rob Beckinsale, who toured California with a prototype AGI guitar last year.

“It was a busy evening, but lots of fun,” added the luthier, from Holt.

“Many people told us just how unique, clever and beautiful they though the guitars look and sound.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who was there, and for all the support we received from friends who provided their expertise to make the launch such a success.

“We’re considering staging more events in the future.”
