RECYCLING centres across Wiltshire are to close, one by one, for a short time over the next few months while refurbishments are carried out after new operators took over.

A new contract between the council and FCC Environment will lead to the company running nine council-owned recycling centres. They will be carrying out refurbishment and improvement programmes at the sites between October and December.

Each site will be closed for one to two weeks. People intending to recycle are advised to check when centres are open before setting off. After each refurbishments, the regular winter opening hours will apply from November to March.

Cllr Bridget Wayman said: “We of course don’t want to inconvenience people but these short closures are necessary to allow us a smooth transition to the new contract.

“I’d like to thank people for their patience while these works are carried out.”

The centres affected by closures are as: Marlborough (closed from October 2-12), Warminster (closed from October 11-20), Everleigh (closed from October 23-28), Melksham (closed from October 30-November 11), Salisbury (closed from November 9-18), Trowbridge (closed from November 13-26), Devizes (closed from November 29-December 9) and Stanton St Quintin (closed from December 4-18).
