FAMILY-owned independent department store, Leekes, has announced strong post-Christmas sales at its Melksham outlet as shoppers enjoyed the extensive seasonal savings on offer in the Boxing Day sales.

The retailer posted strong first day sales figures at their biggest half-price sale with customers taking particular advantage of significant savings across the store’s furniture ranges.

In addition, branded electrical products such as Smeg and Dyson vacuum cleaners proved popular as did traditionally popular offers on saucepan sets, towels, duvets and pillows and luggage.

Leekes says it has invested heavily in new displays from brands such as Alexander & James and Mammoth beds. A unique Stressless studio - the first of its kind in the UK- has also been introduced plus new ranges such as Orla Kiely bedding.

Emma Leeke, Managing Director at Leekes, said: “During the past year we have extended the range of products available in store, providing customers with a greater choice and the ability to offer exceptional savings across a wide range of departments.

“Sales, which were hit in the immediate aftermath of the snap election earlier this year, have bounced back in recent months, which in part is due to our wide range of leading brands including G Plan Upholstery, Stressless, Rest Assured and Ercol as well as our own exclusive ranges.

“Our installations departments; kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories, windows and doors, have received a high number of leads which would indicate that many of our customers are possibly choosing to improve not move and are planning New Year home projects.

“There has also been a notable increase in the number of online visitors to our website on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as customers research the best buys online choosing either to purchase there or pop into store to bag a bargain. Alongside the rest of the high street, this is an area experiencing significant sales growth.”
