STAFF and volunteers celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity shop in Westbury.

On Saturday (March 17) customers and the charity’s paramedic bear mascot, Wilber tucked into some cakes at the shop in Maristow Street.

Opened by Dot Whitehead after one of her family members was airlifted, the shop was incredibly successful and after just two years Mrs Whitehead expanded the shop into the premises next door.

She ran the shop for 14 years until she died in December 2012 at the age of 81.

Mrs Whitehead's granddaughter, Carrie Aldous took over in 2013 and has been running it since.

She said: “The support we get from donations of items to sell in the shop is amazing and it has gone up every year. On average, we receive 50 bags of clothes and other items a week. Even though the number of charity shops in Westbury has increased, we are still inundated with donations and we are so grateful."
