THE people of Warminster welcomed the new town mayor into his role at the mayor making ceremony on Monday night.
Tory councillor Tony Nicklin of West ward was elected as mayor by the town council as former mayor Rob Fryer’s year in office drew to a close.
After handing over his chains and robes, Cllr Fryer said: “I have very much enjoyed being in my role as mayor.
“I would like to thank the council, the town clerk and all her staff for a fantastic year which I have very much appreciated.
“It has been fantastic and thank you very much.”
Cllr Nicklin read and signed the declaration of acceptance before taking the chair’s seat for the annual council meeting.
He said: “I declare that I take that office upon myself, and will duly and faithfully fulfil the duties of it according to the best of my judgement and ability.”
Cllr Steve Jefferies was also elected as deputy mayor.
