WESTBURY’S online gasification action group is urging people to submit objections to Hills Waste’s plans for a new incinerator on the Northacre site, after a new planning application for the development has been submitted.

Changes in the structure of the plant, including increasing its height by 10 metres, have meant Hills have had to submit a new planning application, meaning residents now have the opportunity to have their say as the application enters consultation stage.

The gasification action group, which was set up on social media by the public who are worried about the health risks and environmental costs that the plant would bring, have expressed their relief at a new planning application being submitted.

Group member Maggy Daniel said: “This is one of the things we were pressing for in our recent petition to Wiltshire Council.

“But we now need a good number of people to lodge objections urgently, by May 25, to stand any chance of stopping the development.”

Margaret Cavanna, also a member of the Westbury gasification group, said: “This is a great opportunity to make our concerns known formally within the planning process.

“We now hope that hundreds of others who live, work or travel through Westbury and surrounding villages will do the same.

“We know others in Wiltshire are concerned about their domestic rubbish, plus commercial and industrial waste, being driven through the county and disposed of in this way.”

To have your say, visit the Wiltshire Council website and search for application 18/03816/WCM by May 25.
