A NEW £15,000 storage facility for Steeple Ashton Guides was opened on Tuesday (May 22) by Christine Glover, the group’s Assistant Guide Leader.

Located in Acreshort Park in Acreshort Lane, the building will be used by the group’s 75 Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, to store all of their equipment.

Guests at the opening included Cllr Jonathon Seed, of the Melksham Area Board, and the Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Leisure, Libraries and Flooding.

Steeple Ashton parish councillors and villagers who have supported the fundraising for the new storage building, also attended.

Christine Glover said: “We have raised £15,000 towards the cost from the National Lottery, Melksham Area Board, Melksham Rotary Club and the Lesley Sell Scout Charity.

“We have had a bespoke, purpose-designed insulated wooden building built on a piece of land that we have been given permission to use by Steeple Ashton Parish Council.

“This building will store all of our camping and cooking equipment as well as equipment for our Rainbows and Brownies.”

The land was formerly occupied by an old toilet block for the Steeple Ashton Community Kitchen. This was demolished so the new building could be located on the site.
