EAGER young minds at the Grove Primary now have a much better understanding of famous historical figures after completing an exciting learning initiative this term.

Year 1 children at the Trowbridge school dressed up as a character from the book, 100 people who made history, on Thursday, in what was the culmination of a several-month long project.

On the day, the children painted their own Picasso-like creations and tested gravity by making their own parachutes in a fun-filled day.

Evie, who dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II, said: “I liked learning about Martin Luther King and other people, it was really interesting.”

Tilly, who also dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II, said: “My favourite part of this topic was being told about lots of famous people in history.”

Adam added: “I am dressed up as Howard Carter. He found the body of Tutankhamun which is really cool.”

Teachers Danielle Doyle and Leigh-Ann Brown were delighted with how well their pupils greeted this term’s topic.

“They have really enjoyed studying about these historical figures. It is funny that so many remember Howard Carter because we talked about him six weeks ago – that shows how engaged they are,” said Ms Doyle.

Ms Brown added: “When you see that this stuff is being remembered, it is really rewarding.”
