A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested following a police pursuit after a van was stolen in Westbury.

Officers were called at 8.20am this morning (July 16) by the owner of the white works van, who reported seeing a man jumping into the vehicle and driving off.

The van was followed by officers through Warminster, and down the A36 and towards Wilton.

A number of police cars, assisted by the police helicopter, tracked the van through Stratford Tony and Coombe Bissett and onto Homington Road.

The van reverse rammed a police car, but crashed into a tree shortly afterwards.

The driver left the vehicle and ran off from police, but was detained a few minutes later, at 9.07am.

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop for police. He is currently being kept in police custody.
