DRIVERS are becoming increasingly concerned over road safety on the new roundabout which was built on Trowbridge Road in April, as overgrown hedges are covering up the road sign on the approach.

Residents have taken to social media to express their worries over the sign not being visible, and there being no lighting on the roundabout itself, saying it is an accident waiting to happen.

On Spotted in Westbury, Deb Samways said: “Totally ridiculous place to put a sign.

“If you’re going to put signs up at least make sure they can be seen by the people they are intended for.

“Basic stuff that needs attention.”

Martin Lewis wrote: “As the roundabout is off to one side your eyes are drawn to the roundabout further ahead that is lit up.

“Before you know it the new roundabout appears out of nowhere.”

Narrissa Boydell commented: “Saw someone drive over the right-hand side of it today coming from Trowbridge, I guess they didn’t realise it was there till too late, luckily no cars were coming.”

Toby Reed said: “Why haven’t they lit it yet? So dangerous.”

Neil Frost said: “Road signs are there for a reason.

“People who don’t know the area don’t even realise there is a roundabout on a 60mph road until it’s too late.”

People commenting hope to draw Wiltshire Council’s attention to the problem in the hope that the overgrown hedges would soon be cut back, but a week after the posts first appeared they are still obscured by greenery.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the situation, and are in discussions with the developer to rectify the issues here as a matter of urgency. We have been informed the works will begin next week.”
