A TEACHER from Melksham could be the newest presenter to join radio station GWR Wiltshire if enough people vote for her to become a Sunday morning co-host.

Katie Lambert, 30, from Whitley entered an X-Factor style competition called WOW Factor to become a DJ after a family member encouraged her to try her luck.

Now the English teacher, from George Ward School, is waiting to find out if she can beat four other hopefuls in an online vote on the GWR website from 7pm on Friday to midday on Monday.

Mrs Lambert had to host the radio station for an hour on Monday. Each of her four rivals have taken their turns to do the same from Tuesday until today.

The winner will be announced on Monday.

She said: “I entered this for fun, but now I really do want to win. I am sure people are bored of me talking about it and cross the road to avoid me.

“The kids at school are so excited, i think they think it’s something bigger than just Wiltshire and I will be this huge celebrity if I win.”

Mrs Lambert said the competition started with hopefuls going to live auditions at Swindon Town FC’s grounds on November 9 where they each had to talk for a minute about themselves and link two songs together.

From over 80 hopefuls, they were whittled down to 26 who then went to a GWR bootcamp. Mrs Lambert one of 10 to be chosen to have a personal mentoring session with GWR’s special guest David ‘Kid’ Jensen of Capitol Radio and Top of the Pops fame. Five finalists were then chosen.

Mrs Lambert added: “I couldn’t believe I had got through as there were people auditioning who had studied media at Bournemouth and it was their life’s ambition to be a radio presenter.

“When I did my slot on Monday I was really nervous and the hour seemed to be the longest of my life. I looked at the clock at 6.10pm and couldn’t believe only 10 minutes had passed.”

Mrs Lambert, who has been a teacher for five years, said if she were to win the radio show it would fit in nicely with her teaching career as it is a sunday morning slot with DJ Howard Taylor To vote visit www.wiltshiresgwrfm.co.uk.
