Hundreds of people turned out to see the ‘magical’ snow scenes conjured up in Lacock High Street last night for the filming of a two-part Christmas special of Cranford.

Despite the set which had been created earlier in the afternoon being ruined and £500 worth of snow literally going down the drain, TV crews worked quickly to try and reproduce the scene with 35 bags of ‘snow’ at £60 each.

Onlooker and general manager of The George pub, Janet Harris, said: “Tv crews were really worried about the set which was ruined after the heavy rain in the evening but they managed to recreate it with the snow machine and it looked amazing.

“The filming took place from 10.30pm and didn’t finish until after midnight when the crews came over to the pub to celebrate afterwards.

The director of Cranford was especially relieved after the snow scenes were shot.

Ms Harris said: “He was saying it was such a relief to get the snow scenes finished as they are working to a tight schedule.”
