Teaching staff and sixth form students at a Melksham school will be raising money for Cancer Research UK next month by taking part in a fun run.

A team of 35 teachers, admin staff and sixth form students from George Ward School will run and walk 5km for the charity by taking part in the Race for Life in Lydiard Park, Swindon, on July 11.

English teacher Katie Lambert, 31, who is a radio presenter on Heart FM, is behind the joint effort and is due to broadcast live from the race after crossing the finishing line.

She said: “I got roped into it through the radio show as Heart is supporting the Race For Life.

“I mentioned it at the school and loads of people said they wanted to take part.

“We have teachers from all areas of the school, admin staff, receptionists and also a few of the sixth formers who said they wanted to get involved.”

Mrs Lambert said all those taking part are training individually. She has been busy running and going to the gym and is hoping to complete the run inside 30 minutes.

She said: “Some people will be running and some will be walking, it has been the biggest topic in the staff room. I will be presenting as soon as I cross the finish line, looking all sweaty and rough unfortunately.

“We are hoping to raise as much as possible through sponsorship from family and friends.”
