Corsham pub helps Race for Life team raise cash

A team of 12 women from across Corsham are taking on their first Race For Life in Swindon on Saturday to raise money for Cancer Research UK in tribute to their family and friends who have been affected by the illness.

The group decided to take on the 5k challenge in a bid to remember those who have died from cancer and celebrate the lives of the survivors and hope to raise between £1,500 and £2,000 with the help of Great Western pub landlord Gordon White.

One of the runners, 36-year-old Teresa Morris said: “We all decided to take part because each of us knows of somebody who has been affected by cancer and it is also a good challenge for us all as we haven’t taken part in a Race for Life before.

“Gordon is running a charitable sweepstake where people have to guess our combined finish time to win a mystery prize- some people are being quite kind to us while others have said we will take 15 hours.”

Mr White is also holding a family fun evening from 4pm when the runners will return to the pub for a barbecue, raffle and auction and parents have been invited to come along with their small children as there is plenty to do with a variety of children’s games.

All money raised from the raffle and auction will be donated to Cancer Research UK and all of the women taking part would like to thank all of the businesses that have donated gifts towards the event.

The women taking part are Lorna Moore, 52, June Eadie, 53,(Teresa Morris, 36), Jan Stevens, 57, Tracey White, 42, Jo Comley, 34, Val Booi, 51, Debbie Crawford, 39, Bernie Crawford, 63, Julie Larter, 42, Trudy Emmett, 49, Nikki O’Toole, 32, and 19-year-old Katie Malvern will be running with them as a team reserve.
