A photo gallery dedicated to Warminster Carnival is now available to view on the Wiltshire Times' website giving people the chance to relive the highlights of the annual event.
The bright illuminations and vibrant music at this year’s carnival on Saturday were called the ‘best ever’ by the many people who turned out.
Thousands of people lined the streets to watch the procession of floats, parading bands and carnival royalty as they marched through the town centre.
A drag version of Marilyn Monroe, a giant polar bear, St George’s dragon and hordes of majorettes were among the many attractions taking part in the annual festivities.
The procession also saw the likes of the town crier Phil Seddon, Warminster’s fire brigade, and even a giant packet of Digestive biscuits, courtesy of Warminster and District Foodbank, take part.
Mr Seddon said: “I think it was the best carnival ever. It was fabulous this time because we had a lot of walking entries as well as some of the magnificent floats. They had made such a lot of effort.
“The leading light of the carnival is Sandra Major, who organised it. She works all year at it and I think she deserves a medal.”
This year’s winning float, taking the open juvenile category, spectators’ choice and best overall was Frosty Jack by Kipling Juvenile Carnival Club from Shaftesbury.
The Foundation Christian Fellowship from Warminster came first in the local feature prize with their Heaven float.
The profits from the event will be donated to the MS Therapy centre in The Avenue and Dorothy House Hospice, based in Winsley near Bradford on Avon.
Sandra Major, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “It went really well. I was most pleased with the turnout, both from the entrants and the people en route.
“It was nice that people were dressed up in the evening in costume for Hallowe’en.”
The role of carnival prince this year was taken on by Seth Cox, while Shannon Vickers was the carnival princess. They were assisted by princess attendants Emily Howard and Daisy McFerran.
Mrs Major said: “They were the best ones we have ever had. They were so good and very excited.”
The procession began at Boreham Road and made its way down East Street in to the Market Place, High Street, George Street and then Silver Street before it disbanded.
