A pensioner who sexually assaulted a Good Samaritan after becoming obsessed with her may not have to go on a sex offenders’ programme.

Brian Laney harassed the woman, making lewd suggestions, after she stopped to help him when his mobility buggy ran out of power.

The 66-year-old became obsessed with the young mum, who later agreed to become his cleaner, bombarding her with phone calls, text messages and letters and then sexually assaulted her by running his hand on her leg over her clothing and telling her she had ‘sexy legs’.

And despite admitting his wrongdoing he implied to a probation officer that he thought the victim and he were to marry, even though she is engaged to someone else.

Laney, of Coronation Street, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and harassment and was ordered to go on a sex offenders programme when he was sentenced last May.

But the case appeared back at Swindon Crown Court on Wednesday as the probation service were seeking to change the order.

Judge Euan Ambrose said they wanted to remove the condition making him go on the programme, and adjourned the case to Wednesday, March 16.
