Cash goes into Bradford-based zone

Former Bradford on Avon mayor Isabel Martindale helped the Wiltshire Music Centre kickstart a fundraising campaign by cycling almost 5,000 miles across Canada last summer.

Her efforts raised £500 for the centre’s Zone Club, a monthly music and performance workshop for young adults with disabilities led by Bristol band Babyhead.

The centre’s artistic director, Keith Nimmo, said: “We are very grateful to Isabel as what she did was truly inspiring and we are very pleased she decided to support the Zone Club.

“We’d certainly appreciate donations from others keen to learn more about the work we do.

“I think the club is vital to help develop confidence in those trying to make their way in the world.”

Mrs Martindale, whose epic Candian trek took three months, said: “I enjoyed the whole experience of the trip immensely.

“At times it was, of course, a little intense, but I’m very pleased to have done it.

“Canada is such a very, very hilly country, but I coped pretty well.”

The Zone Club, which has around 30 regular members, is next meeting at the Wiltshire Music Centre between 11am and 2pm, on Saturday March 3.

The gift is the centre’s first step towards raising £10,000 in the next six months to support the 14-year-old project.
