People in Trowbridge can discover different ways to save water on Monday when Wessex Water visits the town.

It will be the first stop during the company’s annual roadshow that will visit various towns across its region.

Wessex Water staff will be on hand to explain how to be more water efficient and offer top water saving tips.

Visitors to Wessex Water’s mobile unit in Fore Street will also be encouraged to sign up to the company’s Target Twenty campaign in which people can pledge to save 20 litres of water a day within their household.

Launched in 2011, Target Twenty encourages people to consider the way they use water both inside and outside their homes.

People who sign up will receive a free water saving device and be entered into a competition to win a water butt.

Since the campaign was launched, people have pledged to save a total of 30,000 litres of water – which is almost enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Marilyn Smith, head of public and community relations, said: "Getting out and about and meeting people is a great way to understand how people save water around their homes and for us to offer advice to those who are keen to do so.

"Although we have not had to put any restrictions on water during the summer, it's still very important for everyone to do their bit when it comes to saving water.

"The tours are also a great opportunity for people to ask any questions about water and sewerage services while at the same time find out how we are investing in projects in the area."

The range of water saving tips Wessex Water will be promoting in Trowbridge will include how turning off taps when brushing teeth can save 16 litres of water per day and how using a bowl in a sink can save a total of five litres of water.

Energy experts from British Gas will visit towns with the firm to offer free insulation, solar panels and energy efficient boilers and to discuss the range of tariffs available.

Wessex Water will be based in Fore Street, Trowbridge, on Monday from 10am to 3pm.
