THEY were not born when pop group Steps burst on to the music scene, but pupils at a Trowbridge school got into the swing when they recreated the band’s dance moves.

Children at The Grove primary school boogied to 5, 6, 7, 8 in the playground after Sonya Champion, chairman of the Friends of the Grove Schools, got a signed and framed photograph from the Steps revival tour.

A work colleague is a relative of band member Lisa Scott-Lee.

She said: “We wanted to do something that would raise money for the school, but also engage the kids in something fun.

“They had to do a 10-minute dance routine. All the children who returned a sponsorship form were entered into a draw to the win the photo.”

Children wore 1990s outfits, in a tribute to the decade when Steps were chart-toppers. The winner will be get their prize on July 14 at the summer fete, when there will be fancy dress and a miniature garden competition between 1-4pm.
