Banners with their pictures were put up around the school.

Mother-of-four Mrs Smith, 61, who worked in the kitchen before becoming a teaching assistant, said: “The people and the children at this school are wonderful and I’m going to miss them, but I think now is the right time to say goodbye.”

Mrs Taylor, 60, who has two children, plans to spending her retirement with husband Robin, 62, who also recently retired.

She said: “I’ve had a great 12 years here, but it will be nice being able to go away outside the summer holidays.”
