Computers stolen in Westbury school break-in

MATRAVERS School in Westbury has been targeted three times by thieves and vandals this month, with cabling and computers among the items stolen.

Over the weekend of August 3-6, an air conditioning unit and lengths of cable were stolen from a roof at the school, causing substantial damage.

Last Wednesday night a water fountain was wrenched or kicked off a wall inside the school, although no further thefts were reported.

Then on Sunday evening, thieves smashed windows in a portable building and stole two computers from inside.

Police inspector Lindsey Winter said: “Disappoint-ingly, while the school is closed for the summer holidays people have taken to causing a nuisance there.

“There are school caretaking staff patrolling the grounds during the break, as are the local neighbourhood policing team, and this will continue for the duration of the holidays.

“Anyone who is living in the vicinity of the school is asked to inform us should they see anything suspicious happening at the school.”

Contact police on 101 ext 736818 with information.
