Produce show kicks off Melksham Food Festival week proper

MELKSHAM Gardeners’ Society will hold its 4th Open Flower and Produce Show at Melksham Assembly Hall on September 9.

From 2pm the event will include competitions in flowers, fruit and vegetables plus children’s, handicrafts, cookery and photography sections.

The event kicks off the Melksham Food Festival week proper with its produce and delicious cookery competitions.

There will be a variety of breads baked throughout the afternoon and Matt Simpson of Simpson Seeds will be on hand to pass on his knowledge of growing tomatoes, capsicums, cucumbers, melons and other greenhouse crops.

Also on the menu are a number of demonstrations and displays from a wide range of specialist groups including including Wiltshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers; Wiltshire Branch of The British Cactus and Succulent Society; Wiltshire Alpine Garden Society; Melksham Bee Keepers and Wiltshire Wood Recycling.

Show prizes and those for Melksham Town Council’s Melksham in Bloom competition will be presented by Melksham’s mayor at around 4pm.

Entry is £1.50 for adults including tea, coffee or squash and biscuits. Children free.
