Wiltshire schools sign up to energy bills project

Eleven Wiltshire schools have signed up for a programme to help the environment and save money on energy bills.

A launch event for the Cut Carbon Cut Costs programme was held at St Augustine’s Catholic College, Trowbridge.

The Wiltshire Council-run scheme encourages schools to make simple changes to lower their energy use, including routine switching off of electrical equipment.

A technical surveyor will visit each school, to help identify areas of improvement.

During a pilot of the scheme, 70 per cent of schools reduced their electricity consumption by an average of 17 per cent.

Toby Sturgis, the cabinet member for the environment, said: “I am delighted schools in Wiltshire are taking part in this programme again.

“The pilot provided some really successful results and showed how significant an impact even the simplest of changes can make.”
