A Warminster pub has scooped up awards for its beer, music and flowers over the summer since it was taken over by two locals in January.

The Yew Tree was awarded the title of Regional Live Music Pub 2012 by Marstons brewery last month, and followed it up with first prize in the Warminster in Bloom competition for the best commercial display.

The pub, in Boreham Road, was later awarded Cask Marque status for the quality of its real ale selection.

Landlords Willy Williams and Pauline Martin have run three pubs previously, the last being The Bell and Crown in Warminster, but left the trade for a short while.

However in January they decided the time was right to return.

Ms Martin said: “We had always liked this pub, and we felt that Warminster really needed a community pub.

“It has a lot of places where the youngsters can drink, and eating places, but we wanted to provide somewhere people can come to have a drink and a chat, and play a game of pool or darts.

“It is all about the beer and the company, although we do music and food as well.

“We have worked so hard in the eight months we have been here and to receive recognition in three separate fields is very encouraging and makes it all worthwhile.

“Florabunda Nursery in Frome supplied most of our plants and planted up the baskets and since then I have kept up a regular routine of watering and feeding to keep them in top condition.”

The Yew Tree hosts live music every Saturday evening, and Mr Williams, a keen musician himself, hosts a jam session on Sunday afternoons.
