Council announces one-hour free car parking in run-up to Christmas

Wiltshire Council has announced that for the second year running shoppers will be able to get an extra hour of parking for free in the run-up to Christmas.

In the autumn issue of Wiltshire Council’s magazine for residents there will be a Christmas parking voucher which entitles the reader to an extra hour of parking at no extra cost.

The magazine will be issued from October 15.

Cabinet member for highways, cllr Dick Tonge, said: “I really hope people take advantage of this offer to help stimulate shopping in our towns and city in the run up to Christmas.

“All residents in Wiltshire will receive the voucher for one hour free parking when their Your Wiltshire magazine drops through their door. It will be a welcome boost to both businesses and shoppers.”

When displaying the voucher alongside their parking ticket from December 17 to 24 motorists are entitled to an extra hour free. This voucher can be used as many times as people want within that week.

Your Wiltshire will also published be on the council's website www.wiltshire.gov.uk/yourwiltshiremag and available in local libraries.

Anyone who does not receive a copy can call the council on 0300 456 0100.

Wow a whole hour free but only if you buy an hour first how kind ! It would be better for businesses if they scraped the parking charge altogether for the week!

Politicians love gimmicks as a means of reminding us how important they are. The trouble is, they are so useless at them. Maybe next they will auction a week's free parking on eBay and give the proceeds to charity.

An hours parking is usually enough for anyone, so a free hour on top is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Anyone know if they are handing out discounts on buses or taxis for those who have no car to park
