Warminster School labs technicians up for prize

Science technicians at Kingdown School, Warminster, are among nine finalists for the 2012 Rolls-Royce Science Prize.
The school’s success has already secured a £6,000 prize, which will be used to develop the project over the next academic year.
The technicians will be working to provide a bank of practical experiments and activities for science teachers to use in lessons and to produce video demonstrations of some of the more dangerous activities.
Science teacher Marleen Hamblin said: “We feel privileged that our innovative technicians are in the final of the Rolls-Royce Science Prize, having won through two stages so far.
“They will be doing demonstrations for the students and training teachers in the new practicals and building up a library of videos.”
The finalists’ projects will be judged in October 2013, with the winner receiving £15,000 to spend on science teaching.
The winning school will also spend a day with the Red Arrows display team.
