Team hit by changing rooms raid

A SUNDAY league football team had their possessions stolen during their game at the weekend.

The Westbury-based Horse and Groom Football Club, who play in the division two of the Chippenham Sunday league, had wallets, mobile phones, cigarettes and loose change stolen from their changing room during their game.

The match should have been at the team's home ground at Leighton Sports Ground, but it is now being used for cricket and so the game was switched to Stanley Park, Chippenham.

Manager Tim Beecham, 26, said: "We had a valuables bag for the game, which we take out of the changing rooms during the match, but some of the lads forgot to put their valuables in.

"You hear of this thing happening but Stanley Park is not normally a place where you think this would happen.

"The complex at Stanley Park is lottery funded and all of the changing rooms doors have locks but if you want the door locked you have to pay a deposit for a key."

Chippenham Town Council clerk Laurie Brown said: "There is no deposit system on any keys at Stanley Park. This is totally untrue.

"All teams are responsible for their own valuables and there are signs in the leisure complex stating this."
