Boxing legend to open sports bar
Larry Holmes in action in 1986
Larry Holmes in action in 1986

BOXING legend Larry Holmes is opening a new sports bar in Trowbridge on Sunday.

The Easton Assassin will be the VIP guest at the opening of Sugar Rays Sports Bar in Church Street.

The former heavyweight world champion, who had a record of 69 wins in 75 fights, will be cutting the ribbon at the new bar at 3pm, followed by a champagne reception.

During his long career, Larry fought great fighters such as Earnie Shavers, Mike Weaver, Tim Witherspoon, Leon, Spinks, Gerry Cooney, and Mike Tyson.

He held the world title for more than seven years with 48 straight professional wins and 20 consecutive title fights.

Larry's record still stands today (48 consecutive wins with 20 title defences) next to great boxing legends as Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis.
