Teens face jail over milkman vendetta

A JUDGE has warned a group of teenagers who carried out a six-year vendetta against a west Wiltshire milkman they could be facing a prison sentence.

District Judge Simon Cooper told the five, all from Bradford on Avon, their targeted campaign of theft was shocking and reprehensible' and the community needed to see justice done.

Luke Hammerton, of Avon Close, Gradyn Runyeard-Hunt, of Winsley Road, and Ashley Keirl, of Kingston Avenue, all 18, along with a 17 year old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted stealing dairy products worth an estimated £12,000 from milkman Michael Bulling between 2001 and 2007 at Chippenham magistrates' court on Wednesday.

A further joint charge of harassment against Mr Bulling was withdrawn.

The four, along with 18 year old Samuel Jordan, of Avon Close, also admitted carrying out a burglary at Planks Dairy in Poulshot near Devizes in September 2007.

The court heard that over a period of years the group repeatedly stole milk and other dairy products from people's doorsteps in Bradford on Avon and the surrounding area.

They followed milkmen on their rounds in the early hours of the morning, sometimes riding on scooters alongside the milk floats while stealing from them and verbally abusing and intimidating Mr Bulling and his staff.

They set up a website on Bebo called BESMBE (Bradford Early Street Milk Blagging Elite), which chillingly included a photo of Mr Bulling's parents' gravestone, and bragged about their crimes without realising it was being monitored by police.

Prosecuting, Tessa Hingston said: "This caused a great deal of distress, annoyance and nuisance to the local residents. But in particular it affected Michael Bulling and his staff.

"The verbal abuse and harassment meant that the milkmen were forced to return to the yard, change their routes or abandon them altogether."

Many of his staff took early retirement or left and Mr Bulling eventually sold most of his business to Dairy Crest.

The police investigation continued over years but it proved difficult to identify exactly who had committed the crimes, until September last year when the five were caught red-handed stealing £150 worth of dairy products from Plank's Dairy.

Miss Hingston said it was likely many more were involved over the years and that Jordan's older brother had been one of the instigators of the vendetta.

Each of the defendant's solicitors said they had been drawn into the campaign but were not ringleaders, had admitted their crimes had got out of hand and were truly sorry.

Andrew Watts Jones said Runyeard-Hunt suffered from mild Asperger's syndrome and the others wound him up because it was fun to see what happened'.

Judge Cooper adjourned the case for reports to be prepared on the five.

He added: "What's evident to me is that you have deprived good men of their living and the satisfaction of a job well done. On of the things I will consider for the benefit of the community and to deter others from offending in this way is a custodial sentence."

'Prison sentence' my a r s e. They'll get community service and stick two finger up at the judge as they walk out the court room.

6 years though, took the police long enough to do something about it! The damage has already been done hasn't it.

Guilty of thefts over 6 years (and the website) but that does not constitute harassment? Get real CPS!

Exactly! I think the picture of Mr Bullings parents grave on their website, an obvoius geer at their victim, constitues as harrassment.

These boys thought they were being clever, it is a shame that they weren't intelligent enough to think not to put their pictures and names on their website. How stupid can you get?
Then again, it isn't a shame really - it brought them to some form of justice.

Prediction time, these little &^%$£*'s bleating Mothers will kick up such a bawling fuss claiming little &^%$ was really innocent occifer that the social workers will get them a year picking up litter, which they wont even be made to do. They should be forced into slavery for Mr Bulling for the rest of their naturals!

Do we really need any of these dullards in our society. My sentiments reflect what has already been said. I think they will basically get away with their crimes. Judges need to come down hard on these wasters. Make an example of them with the harshest possible punshments. Shame we cant just take these people somewhere and quietly dispose of them. They are surplus to societies requirements.

Hayley, you should read the article again, but just in case you missed it, here is the relevant bit - The police investigation continued over years but it proved difficult to identify exactly who had committed the crimes, until September last year when the five were caught red-handed stealing £150 worth of dairy products from Plank's Dairy.

So you see, the Police were working on it, but had no proof andthat is the important bit !!

these crimes have been going on 6 years, meaning they were 11-12yr olds when they started, didnt the parents notice them going out early in the mornings, i mean milkmen deliver about 4-5am and to steal the products before the customers where awake
it must have been early hours for children of those ages or were the parents having bacon and eggs every morning.

Surely if they were 11-12 yrs old at the time , why were they allowed out. They're parents are as guilty as they are. send the buggers down for 12months, the crimes done now, but my god teach them. they can't get away with it, i expect they'll be little butter wouldnt melt and cry in court anyway. i expect the Judge 'Jester' will send them out with slapped wrist.

All they had to do was ask local residents and hang around Bradford-On-Avon in the early hours of the morning when milk rounds were taking place and they would have caught them all red handed.

Yea ok... we have done wrong. yea we do know we are guna get punished. This started off as a small prank.. It got way out of control!! we admit this.. we are all sorry for the part we have played. at the end of the day,, even tho they caught us.. there are so many other ppl in WILTSHIRE, not just boa hu have done, doing and will do when we are sentenced. Obviously one has learnt his lesson and is full of genuine remorse. but like some1 has sed. Yes the crime has already been committed. now we will pay for it. To be honest i dnt think any of you have any place to comment... as probably not one of u can say uv never done nething illegal.. when i say that i mean nething.. speeding.. spitting.. smoking underage.. underage drinking.. littering.. spitting out chewing gum.. So yea, maybe justice will be done in the eyes of u lot. and we may recieve a prison sentence or left to physically repay the debt to society.Watever we recieve.. we deserve it.. But u cant take away the fact that we are ALL GENUINELY SORRY!

I refer you to my earlier comments...
Dont try and somehow justify what you did (if indeed you are genuine here) with things like spitting gum out, however abhorent that is also. You are in a different league and with any luck you're going down. Don't forget the vaseline tho, eh!

Oh my lord, do any of you actually realise what you are saying? have you not seen what is going on in the rest of the world? there are plenty of *^%$holes getting away with far worse. yes, its terrible what they did, but get over it. this is not about a group of hardcore criminals, its about a group of young kids, who were each individually going through tough times, (which had conveniently not been mentioned) who needed a let out. people are quick enough to act now this has happened but where were they when they were actually needed. if you ask me there needs to be more money spent on OUR OWN people in this country. things like this will carry on happening because there is little focus on young people to put them in the right direction. and just to put my message across, i know each and every one of these boys very well, and they are sorry. They are all well mannered caring boys who got bored and it got out of hand.

Guilty and sentence. If everyone so concerned about the poor halfwits, help pay for the stress and loss of earnings.Oh, you gone quiet.Make a statement in a letter to the wiltshire times to this fact 'that your sorry' no nothing. Has anyone of the twerps written and apologised to the milkman..urm..no. If they're sorry and had problems why did you or the parent who must of wondered where all the milk bottle were coming from and sat them down and sorted out the problems..again..no. They for years consistantly mentally abused a hard worker of the community. Did any of you stand up for him..urm...no. we've all done mister meaners..yes. But to go out and completely wreck a man for no good reason and dim wittingly post it on the internet shows what little intelligence they have. Grow up go to prison and get over it.

do we for get these boys all have parents or careers, they mite have done wrong and they are all willing to pay for there wrong doing, there are more murderers out there who don't care what they did, but its always the families that have to pay for the discripancies of children and thats what they are somebodies children, can any one honestly say that they or anyone in there family as never done anything wrong a brother, sister, mother, father, cousins and even friends i dont think so we all know somebody who has done something so stop picking on young boys who are willing to pay for what they done and get on with your own lifes and be there for your families and friends

Well squirell nutkins. I think that I am in a very good position to comment, and think that i've been affected enough to call you scum!! I would be glad to hear your half of the story as I'm sure so would everyone else, as I dont understand the reasons for the mental torture that you have put on Mr Bulling and the Plank family. Pinching a few pints of milk and eggs is perhaps not the end of the world but what about scaring people until they are to scared to go to work, lying in bed wondering who is going to break into the yard tonight. As you quote 'this is happening all over the country' this makes it alright then does it ?

At The end of the day, they are genuinly sorry for what they did. I'm sure if it was anyone you knew, you would think differently. How will it help if they go down?? There are more people that were involved and they can carry on. At least these people are sorry and will stop. Maybe they should be punished but goin dwn for this is way over board! There is so much more to worry about than this! It was teenagers, being cocky and funny, and everyone of you have been one and no what its like. Maybe you didn't go this far but it's what teenagers do. The point is they are sorry and they won't carry on. If people can get away with murder and things like that then surely they should have a smaller punishment rather than being sent down. I hope, no matter what anyone says, that they don't get sent down for this because they don't deserve to be.

that said i would much prefere to go to prison for a year and carry on as i was than to have the buisness i built up over the years destroyed and have all that worry!! and the humiliation!!! i would defently swap that 4 a little prison time
Posted by: trowbo, Trowbridge on 9:52am Fri 30 May 08
I think the point most people defending the youths are missing is the only reason they stopped and are sorry is becuase they got caught. Would they really be on here posting their sorrow at the mistake they made and how they will never do it again if they hadn't got caught?

I also belief a mistake is something you might make once or twice, then learn from the experience. As mentioned by others almost everyone has their 'little stage' as a teenager when they misbehaviour, but people learn from it and move on, not spend 5 years repeatedly making the same mistake - surely it can longer be called a mistake, it's habit, routine or even a way of life?

Prison probably isn't the right answer, but I can't help thinking that if these boys aren't dealt with they will become the hardend criminals of tomorrow. If they walk away thinking they got away with it, why stop with milk when the criminal world is their oyster?

Posted by: Sonny-marie, Bradford On Avon on 10:59am Fri 30 May 08
I don't them all very well. But i know well enough that they have really learnt they're lesson, and they aren't the sort to go out and become "criminals". They are teenagers who have done wrong. They aren't stupid enough to get into trouble now cos no matter what, it's on record of they're past so they have got themselves a reputation. I'm not excusing what they did for one second but i know that they are not the criminals that everyone makes out they are.

Sometimes we r just weary of trying to fight all the bullies of this world............but what a sad reflection that in some cases those that bully the most feel they can do so because of their "protection" being related to ...a bent policeman.... getting free dairy products for 6 years.........plus all the 2smoothcrew stuff......hey chill......he'll have to start buying his milk at Sainsburys!
but ur comments seem directed at the tart that is the mother.......how do boys/kids learn to be ok...if their mother is nothing but a drunked up ****?

Only saying what I've heard about the mum from locals about the drinking etc
as for the kids....they learn by example and these boys were 11/12 when they started thieving from the milk guy.

Seriously....don't judge them for this...you don't know them at all!!

Especially if you just go off gossip!!

I think you lot are slightly missing the point. The woman in question has nothing to do with this. The 5 of us are to blame!! No 1 else! Give her a rest. And wat idiot brought in the 2smooth crew?? Why? They dnt even exist, it was a name they were given, probably by the paper! anyway. we will be punished tomoro. thats what the important issue is surely, not whether ones parents are too blame. Do you honestly think prison is the answer? Yes or No?

i dint think they would of deserved to get sent down, it was just one little mistake they did one night an tell me, how many of your kids have gone milk blagging?? they only done it on a few occations, accept one ginger one who done it over 100 times, but there much older now an they are willing to learn from there mistakes, an for those other little s**** that go milk blagging now, well, all the boys in court got let off very lightly, but if you kids keep doing it then there gna make an example out of them!! And it will be a harsher sentance!! And all that stuff to do with one of the boys a coppers son, well, you can just get lost!! and calling her a drunk an a tart, you are just pathetic, she is NOT a drunk, she just knows how to have a good time, an how is she a slapper?? shes married aint she?? Plus dont blame the parents, they wernt there when they robbed the stuff were they? what do you think they would do?? wait in the car while they were robbing it?? No dint think so!! GET YOUR FACTS STRAGHT!!!
