Village youth draw up shelter plan

A DETERMINED group of young people from a village youth club are waiting to find out if they have secured a shelter for their local park.

The 12 young people in Holt have just finished a 12-week project funded by West Wiltshire District Council and run by Community First, Wiltshire County Council and the Broughton Gifford and Holt Youth Project.

The project, called Holt'R'Us, saw the 11 to 15 year consult their peers about what areas of the village they would like to see improved.

After identifying the park and the youth club as two areas for improvement they took part in a walkabout and photographed the area, before presenting their ideas to the parish council. A decision is due next month.

Lesley Taylor, community involvement officer at Community First, said: "They have been a great group of young people to work with and have shown lots of enthusiasm for making changes to their community.

"They have worked very hard on this project and have gained a lot more confidence as well as new skills."
