A BALLOON-MAKING magician amused children at a Wiltshire garden centre at the weekend.

On Saturday, kids and their parents visiting Whitehall Garden Centre, near Lacock, were given the chance to ask David Hickory to make them models of their favourite animals, fish and flowers among other requests.

Christopher Self, who runs the garden centre along with his mother and sons, said: "It was a great success, we had lots of people come to visit him throughout the day as it was a free thing.

"He made himself a magician's hat out of balloons and then made the kids all kind of things.

"I think we had a someone ask for a dog and another request for an octopus - all kind of things.

"He ending up staying all day until 4pm and there were quite a few people that came through to see him.

"The weather was a bit unpredictable on the day, but he stayed under cover and it held out."

The garden centre, in Corsham Road, is holding a variety of workshops every day over the coming month.

Mr Self said it is something the family had always provided to help keep children busy over the school holidays.

He said: "We were having a 3D card making session and workshops using scrap and fruit and vegetables too."

As well as the workshops, some of which need to be booked in advance, the garden centre will host a produce show, which will include classes for children and amateurs on August 23.

Meanwhile on Saturday there will be a chance to get up close and personal with birds of prey, when falconer Rob Evans pays a visit.
