Leaflets were placed on cars parked close to where the remains of Melanie Hall were found yesterday in a bid to jog memories.

Posters asking people to think back to whether their car, or a car of someone they know, had been broken into in the lay-by at Tortworth, near junction 14 of the M5, over the last 13 years, were placed under the windscreen wipers of vehicles.

Police investigating the murder of the 25 year old Bradford Leigh woman, are hoping to trace the owner of a set of keys found close to where her remains were found on October 5, more than 13 years after she vanished from Cadillacs nightclub in Walcot Street, Bath.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police, said: “Some PCSOs were sent out to put leaflets under the windscreens wipers of cars at about 10am on Tuesday, so people would have come back to them when they came back to their cars at the end of the day.”

Detective Superintendent Mike Courtiour, who is leading the hunt for Melanie’s killer, said police had received information that the keys were stolen from a car parked there and then thrown away, but they couldn’t conclusively say that was what had happened.

The keys were featured on a fresh appeal for information on the case, screened during the BBC show Crimewatch in October.
