Town's spring festival today

FALCONRY, canoeing and quad bikes are among the attractions at the annual Spring Festival being held in Melksham today.

Melksham 1st, the Melksham Area Community Development Trust, is holding the event in the Bath Road car park and the King George V playing fields next to Somerfield from 11am-5pm.

This is the fourth year the event has been staged and it aims to promote the park and river areas of the town.

Lee Emery, director of Melksham 1st, said: "This event uses the areas of Melksham that are often forgotten and promotes the town.

"The event is for the community with lots of involvement from local people, local organisations, crafters and businesses."

The Spring Festival is being sponsored this year by Mitsubishi Motors, Melksham Town Council, Cooper Tires, G Plan, Cereal Partners UK and Great Bear Distribution to ensure it remains free for the whole community.

The organisers hope there will be something for everyone with live music, dance demonstrations and a visit from the GWR Black Thunder crew.

There will also be boat trips, craft displays and stalls, plant sales, children's rides, Punch and Judy, Larkrise Community Farm animals, alpacas and vintage vehicles.
